"Exploring the Positive Impact: How Coaching Benefits Individuals and Organisations"

ree

As a coach, you wouldn't be surprised to know I believe in the multiple benefits that coaching individuals, groups and a coaching leadership style, bring to teams and organisations. For those who subscribe to this development tool, you would see hiring a coach for yourself, or for your team member as a worthwhile, even essential investment.

If you need more persuading, this blog will explore the multiple benefits coaching can bring. Having worked in a large organisation for most of my career, coaching is nothing new for any development solution. According to the ILM, if you are looking at organisations with over 2000 employees, 90% would have used the services of a coach within the last year, many finding a coaching culture, the beating heart of their staff development vision. The majority of the Fortune 500 companies are now using coaches too. Coaching is becoming business as usual for forward thinking leaders looking to improve their outcomes and performance in business, and for individuals wanted to better their careers this is now an obvious choice. But why? Let's take a bitesize look.

Increased employee engagement

Any successful leader knows, that when they have engaged staff, they achieve better performance. Enabling your team to find their own solutions, to grow in confidence and improve focus means happier and more engaged staff. If staff are engaged, they focus on what counts, and teamworking is more productive and effective. Furthermore, the stats show time and again that happy staff stay where they are- leading to improved staff retention rates.

Increased Productivity

Many people come to coaching to help deal with their confidence, or assertiveness, or their need to time manage more effectively, as a few examples. So, if these have been worked on through coaching then there is more time to be spent working productively and effectively. Ironing out the kinks can be all that is needed to enable your team to work smarter. If you are looking at coaching for yourself, remember that being more productive can enable your work-life balance to be more aligned too. Many people that I have coached explore their productiveness at work and at home too. No-one wants to spend hours on one tasks if it isn't necessary. Productivity can lead to more fun too.

Leadership development

A good leader is one that knows their influence on others is what matters the most. When a leader has coaching, they take the time to work on what makes them the best versions of themselves, which in turn means they are more engaged, empowered leaders. As a leader, it is common to struggle with managing giving effective feedback, or having difficult conversations. Exploring these through coaching enables the leader to work on their skills, and find solutions that suit them and their style. Putting these into practice and seeing how they are working improves leadership confidence, staff relations and helps develop a culture of openness and learning, where all staff are developing under a well-lead management team.

Performance management

Having coached in a large organisation, many people have been recommended coaching under the remit of working on a performance element. This can be a negative connotation for coaching, and one as a coach, I try really hard to reframe for my clients, as I truly believe coaching is and should always be a positive development tool. If you are struggling with an element of your role, that is quite ok. We don't always know everything and we aren't always natural at everything- this is completely acceptable. Using coaching as a way to explore what we struggle with, and work through it is hugely positive step, and one which can have huge results. After all, being at the centre of your own development is knowing what you need, not anyone else, and that means you can find the right solutions.

Improved skills and in-depth learning

If you are looking to improve your skills and self-development, coaching is a completely individual process for you. You get the exploration you need based on everything you already know. If you have had feedback that you need to work more on your assertiveness for example, chances are you already know this, and you will know how this is demonstrated and most importantly you'll probably know why this is a struggle for you deep down. When we talk through this in coaching we will unblock the barriers to that, and we will therefore finding the right approach to manage this, based on your experiences, personality and style. There is no course that can go to this depth of development, it is personal, it is transformative and it is lasting.

There are so many more benefits to coaching for you and your organisation, in fact the list goes on and on. If you are curious to know more about how this can work for you, please get in touch.
